Disqus Comments

Modified on Fri, 18 Nov 2022 at 09:01 AM

The Disqus Comments widget lets visitors leave comments on your site using the Disqus Platform. Comments can help promote interest and discussion on your site, and give visitors insight into what other visitors think of your service or product.

To add the Disqus comments widget:

  1. In the left panel, click Widgets.
  2. Click and drag the widget into your site.

To learn more about adding widgets to your site, see Add Widgets.

Content Editor

To access the content editor, right-click the widget, and click Edit Content.

Type your Disqus Shortname to allow users to comment using this widget. Until you do so, users will not be able to comment. For more information about the Disqus shortname, click Disqus support portal.

Note

While the shortname is listed as name.disqus.com, you only need to type name in the Disqus Shortname field.

Design Editor

To access the design editor, right-click the widget, and click Edit Design.

Customize the inner and outer spacing in the spacing section. For more information, see Outer and Inner Spacing.

For information about design options that are not specific to this widget (for example, layout, style, or spacing), see Widget Design.

Add Comments to Blog Posts

If you want to allow comments on blog posts, you need to create a new Disqus site for each blog post and then add the Disqus comments widget to each blog post.

Note

You need to use a different Disqus shortname for each post that you allow comments on.

To create Disqus shortnames:

  1. Log into your Disqus account and click the cog icon in the upper right corner.

  2. Select Add Disqus to Site.

  3. Click Get Started.

  4. Select I want to install Disqus on my site.

  5. Enter a name for your site.

  6. Under the Website Name field you can view your unique Disqus URL, which is formatted like test-2.disqus.com. The portion of the URL that comes before .disuqus.com is the shortname you will need to enter in the Disqus comments widget later.

  7. Select a category and click Create Site.

  8. Choose a Disqus plan.

To create more shortnames for each blog post, click +New in the Disqus admin and repeat steps 4-8 for each shortname you need to create.

To add a Disqus site to a blog post:

  1. Open the Editor and in the left panel, click Blog.

  2. Click Manage Posts.

  3. Select the post you want to add the Disqus widget to and click the Edit icon ().

  4. Click and drag the Disqus widget to the bottom of the blog post.

  5. Enter the shortname in the text field.

  6. Click Save and then republish the post.

Comments can be moderated through the Disqus admin.

To enable comment moderation:

  1. Log into your Disqus account.

  2. Click Admin

  3. Expand the Your Sites menu and select the site you want to configure.

  4. In the left menu, select Moderation.
